Robert D. Houck

Robert Dean Houck

Of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2013 at the age of 87.

He graduated from Howe High School in 1943 and went on to serve in the Army Air Force in WWII, where he was an athletic instructor, parachute trainer and competitive basketball player. Afterwards he married Joan Eschmeyer and became an Electrical Engineer at Purdue University. His career included both Bryant and Peerless in Indianapolis, Space Conditioning in Harrisonburg Virginia, Harper J. Ransburg in Indianapolis, Trainor National Spring in New Castle Indiana, Independent Register in Cleveland Ohio, and ended at MasterFit in Indianapolis, where he retired as Plant Manager.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Joan Eschmeyer Houck. He is survived by his three daughters, Kathy Hoover (Wayne), Karen Roberts (Bill) and Lisa Rapchick (Joe). He is also survived by his three granddaughters, Jenny Raymer (Brad), Laura Sanchez (Justin) and Diane Stafford (Kevin); as well as six great-grandchildren, Calvin, Ally, Luke, Oliver, Jack, Nora and another one on the way.

He was much loved by his family, friends and most anyone who knew him. He was kind, generous, intelligent and respectful, with a wry sense of humor. He was a master storyteller and got much of his material from his talent for getting himself into amusing situations. He was thankful for the affection and care he received while resident at the Madison Health Care Center.

He loved making his wife happy, dogs of all shapes and sizes, spectator sports, bobbing in the ocean, reading, basking in the sun, corn on the cob, ice cream, cookies, and gooseberry pie.

Rest in Peace, Dad.
