Robert James Horth
93, civil engineer and businessman, passed peacefully in his sleep at Sunrise Assisted Living, Des Peres, Missouri, on January 5, 2013. Born September 1, 1919 in Youngstown, Ohio to Albert and Mildred Horth, he moved with his family to Indianapolis in 1934 where he attended Shortridge High School. After graduating from Purdue University, where he joined Acacia Fraternity, he revived and successfully ran the family business, Central Engineering and Construction Company, with his brothers Donald and Douglas. Respected for his fair and honest business practices, he was a long-time member of the Indianapolis Rotary Club (where he was recognized as the longest sustaining member in 2011), the Scottish Rite Cathedral, and Broadway and later Epworth United Methodist Churches (where he loved singing in the choir). Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Jeanne Horth; daughter, Marilyn; son-in-law, John Tarnow; two grandchildren; sister, Berniece Carlino; and brother, Douglas Horth. His passing was preceded by those of his sister, Janet Becker; brother, Donald Horth; and nephew, Robert Douglas Horth. Memorial contributions should be made to the A. J.
