Stephen B. Thompson

68, of Clayton, passed away on January 25, 2013 following a brave and determined fight against cancer. He was born May 11, 1944, to Leonard (Tommy) and Mary Beadle Thompson. He was a graduate of Clayton High School and Purdue University. Upon graduation from Purdue, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as an officer in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star. He married Diane Gerber on January 2, 1983 and she survives. After a successful career in the field of animal health and biotechology (including stints at Elanco, a division of Eli Lilly and Genentech) and assignments in Ohio, Illinois, Maryland, California, North Carolina and Kansas, he returned to Hendricks County and to the farm on which he grew up. Other survivors include daughter, Sheila (Brad) Lynch of North Las Vegas and son, Stephen (Caitlin) of Denver. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Philip and Zachary Lugris and Nathaniel and Chloe Lynch, and ten nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his younger brother, Bill. He was a long-time member of the Clayton Presbyterian Church. He loved life, his family and friends and his country and will be missed. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013 in the Hamp ton-Gentry Funeral Home , Plainfield. Private graveside services will be at Center Valley Cemetery in Belleville. Donations may be made to the or the Julian Center.
