Susan Carr Berilla

Passed away on October 25, 2013. She was born in Columbus, Indiana on October 3, 1956, the only daughter of Louis E. Carr and Dorothy M. (Yunghans) Carr, of rural Bartholomew County.

Susan was a member of the Columbus East High School inaugural graduating class of 1974. She was graduated from Purdue University, with a B.A. in Spanish in 1978, and earned an M.A. in Communication Studies from California State University at San Bernardino (with highest honors) in 2004. Prior to her early retirement in 2008, Susan was employed by Cal Poly Pomona as Director of Organizational Development and Training.

Having rescue-adopted four successive Dalmatians from 1996 to 2010, Susan was widely known for her soft-spot for dogs. She nurtured a vibrant faith in Christ, serving most recently as an elder at Southport Presbyterian Church, where she was also a member of the personnel committee. Susan turned her six year battle with ovarian cancer into a ministry, compiling her reflections on her faith-journey in a series of essays called "Silver Linings." She enjoyed travel - especially by train - and the outdoors.

Susan is survived by her brother, John Carr; sister-in-law, Candy Carr; nephews, Luke and Andy Carr of Columbus, Indiana, and her brother, Stephen Carr; sister-in-law, Lisa Carr; nieces, Rachel, Caroline, Anna Carr and nephew, Jonathan Carr of Indianapolis.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 28 in Singleton Com munity Mortuary and Memorial Center , 7602 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 29 in Southport Presbyterian Church, 7525 McFarland Blvd., Indianapolis at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service.
