Rev. Teresa Thomas

62, of Indianapolis, passed away on March 22, 2013. Pastor of Allen Temple A.M.E. Church, Marion, Indiana, she had previously served as pastor at Bethel A.M.E. churches in Franklin and Crawfordsville. Having become a member of the Robinson Community A. M. E. Church, in 1992, she began serving in diverse ways and was ordained as a minister. She had worked professionally in banking, and as a counselor, neighborhood director and community liaison.

She was a long-time activist in the Meridian Kessler and Butler Tarkington communities.

Rev. Thomas channeled her energies and expertise toward the youth in the community, initiating the first spring break gang intervention camp in the city; ran an afterschool and summer program and established a peace and justice youth peer center. Through her leadership gang members were given jobs, had mentors and returned to Godly lives.

She had studied at Butler, Anderson and Martin universities and the Christian theological seminary, earning an associate, two bachelors and three masters degrees.

On Saturday, March 30, there will be visitation from 10 a.m. until Noon, with Celebration of Life Services at Noon at the Robinson Community A.M.E. Church, 4602 North College Avenue. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.

She leaves many to cherish her legacy of service, including her father, Aaron L. Thoms, Sr.; brothers, Aaron L. Thomas, Jr. (Linda) and Gary A. Vaughn; aunt, Lela Crozier; nieces, Lynnette (Pastor Jeff) Foreman), Angela (Kevin) Miller, Erica Thomas and Taylor Vaughn; nephew, Aaron Thomas, III, grand, great grand an great great grandnieces and nephews, her church flock and the youths she loved.
