Troy W. Glidewell

92, passed away peacefully in his sleep Jan. 7th, 2013. He was born in Graves County, KY, on March 3rd, 1920, to the late Troy W. Sr. and Ruth Poff Glidewell.

The family soon moved to Miami, FL where he remained until graduating from high school. He then moved to Detroit and took a job with the Greyhound Bus Company until leaving to join the U.S. Air Force in 1941. He was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant in 1945, and attended Murray State College on the GI bill. While there, he got his first job in radio, broadcasting the Murray State football and basketball games. His first football game was against the University of Louisville which had a quarterback named Johnny Unitas.

Mr. Glidewell had a long and distinguished career in radio, both in sales and broadcasting. He moved back to Miami in 1954 and got a job with WIOD radio announcing the Miami Hurricanes football games. He also was the track announcer at the Miami Beach Kennel Club. After retiring to Maryville, TN in 1990, he co-hosted Bob Gilbert's The Sports Page on station WBCR for the next 16 years. He had a wonderful, resonant voice and did many commercials and voice-overs.

He was very active in his church, both at Palmetto Presbyterian in Miami and New Providence Presbyterian in Maryville. He became a member of Tabernacle Presbyterian after moving to Indianapolis in 2006. He also had been a Big Brother to three young boys in Miami.

Mr. Glidewell was preceded in death by his wife, Aurora "Tiny" Glidewell, his brother James Glidewell, and his son-in-law Rowland A. Sherrill. Surviving are his daughter, Joy Sherrill, Indianapolis, grandchildren Amy Sherer and husband Mark, Dickinson ND, John Sherrill and wife Carrie, Carmel, IN, great-grandchildren Sam, Katie and Jacob Sherer and Anthony and Addison Sherrill, cousin Judy Houston and husband Lang, and brothers- and sisters-in-law John and Pat Correia and Gordon and Alice Jones.

The Rev. John Gable will conduct the service celebrating Mr. Glidewell's life at McKee Chapel, Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 418 E. 34th St, Indianapolis, on Sat., Jan. 12th, at 2:00 p.m. with calling one hour before the service. A reception will be held at Morningside of College Park, 8810 Colby Blvd., immediately following.

He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends from Miami to Indianapolis. He was truly one of the good guys.
