Vera Alice Wood Lewallen

90, longtime Indianapolis resident, went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2013. She was born August 16, 1922 in Streeter, WV to Ira and Murrell (Cooper) Wood, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James E. Lewallen; grandsons, Scott and William Essex, Jr.; sister, Glenna Snyder of Davie, FL; brothers, William I. Wood of Clinton, IN, and Franklin D. Wood of Punta Gorda, FL; and adopted sister, Mollie C. Cramer of Ft. Myers, FL; step-son Bruce Lewallen, Sr. of Indianapolis. Survivors include her children, Barbara (late Robert) Sparks, William I. Essex, Becky (John) Selzer, grandchildren, Kimberly Luttrell, Steven Essex, Jane (Michael) Mendez, John E. (Amanda) Selzer; great-grandchildren, Joey (Ciara Taylor) Luttrell, T.J. (Shaunna Britt) Luttrell, Stephanie Johnson, John R. Selzer, Cheryl A. Selzer, and Lewis A. Selzer; great-great-grandchildren, William, Miyah, Dakota, and Nickolai, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren from Robert Sparks family. Also surviving are James' children, Carolyn (Douglas) Ehlen; late son, Bruce Lewallen, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Ginny (late Bruce, Sr.) Lewallen, Deborah (Joe) Coleman; grandchildren, Sharon (Kevin) Adams, Rodney Morgan, Bruce Lewallen, Jr., Yolanda Smith, Duane (Kelly) Ochodnicky, Jr., Eric Ochodnicky, Helena Ochodnicky; great-grandchildren, Zachary Adams, Duane, Jr., Andrew, Olivia, Eric, Jr., Dakota, Jonah, Ricky and lifelong friend, Gaye Whitehead of Daniels, WV. She was a longtime member of Post Road Christian Church, retired from RCA Record Division in 1983 after 31+ years of service. She loved the Lord and all her family. She enjoyed fellowship with her Sunday School class and various bible study groups. Vera was a great reader of books, enjoyed working crossword puzzles, quilting, cross stitch, gardening of vegetables and especially flowers. She was constantly reading and studying her Bible. She cherished the time spent with her family. Her family wishes to thank Community Hospice for their instruction and gentle care. Mom was able to spend her last days in her home being cared for and surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a service at 3:00 p.m. in Flanner and Buchanan - Washington Park East , 10722 E. Washington Street.
