Virginia A. Stoner

Virginia Austin Stoner

95, died on Easter Sunday April 20, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus, Indiana. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Benjamin and Helen Gold Austin. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Journalism in 1941 and initially worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. She and Richard Stoner were married in 1942 and moved to Columbus in 1947. She was preceded in death by her husband (Richard Stoner who died in 2008) and two siblings (Jack Austin and Jeannea Resener). Virginia and Richard have six children: Pamela Burt (Michael Burt); Richard Stoner, Jr. (Elizabeth Ambaye); Benjamin Stoner (Patricia Daly); Janet Stoner (Robert Abrams); Rebecca Kirts (Randy Kirts); and Joanne Stoner (Jack Hanick). Virginia and Richard have fifteen grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren. Virginia was involved in many community, civic, and religious activities in Columbus and with Indiana University. She was named Columbus Indiana "Woman of the Year" in 1992 based on her community activities.
