William H. Bamford

William "Bill" Harold Bamford

Indianapolis, born on September 2, 1926 to Harold William and Marie Felicite (Scott) Bamford, died on December 7, 2013 in Greenwood Meadows Nursing Home. Bill was a graduate of Wilson High School in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he was born and raised. He volunteered for the Army Air Corps in WWII and later attended the university of Minnesota on the G.I. Bill.

His early career was colorful and included pin setter in a bowling alley, Fuller Brush man, and repossession agent. He then worked for Gulf Oil from 1955-1983. With Gulf Oil/Cities Service he and his family lived in Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa, Indiana, New Jersey and New York but returned to Indianapolis upon his retirement in 1983. Bill was an avid golfer who won multiple company tournaments and shot his age when he was 72. He was an excellent wood worker and created many beautiful pieces of furniture. Bill was also an ardent fisherman and enjoyed sharing his love of the sport with his children and grandchildren. Bill attended every Indianapolis 500 race from 1967 until 2011 and with that, started a tradition that brings his extended family together every May to enjoy the race with him.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna and Christy; and first wife, Mary Louise (Voigt) in 1985; mother of Becky, Billy, Kathy, Susie and Joey. Bill will be missed and remembered by his second wife, Nina (Pansini); children, Rebecca (Mark) Long, William Bamford, Katherine (Carey) Lykins, Susan Mikels, Joseph (Lynn) Bamford and David Creely; grandchildren, Molly Waters, Amanda (Eric) Graas, Kenna Long, Scott Bamford, Justin (Joy) Bamford, Colin Bamford, Dan Kelly, Lauren Riddell, Amy (Marc) Lykins, Scott (Amy) Lykins, Katie Lykins, Andrea Bamford, Paul Bamford, Jackie Patterson, Ben Patterson, and Brandon Creely; great-grandchildren, Isaac Waters, Sophia Waters, Brienna Bamford, Cole Bamford, Austin Bamford, Roman Lykins, Chase Hudgins and Nicolas McPherson.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 11 a.m. until Noon immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46217. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared with the family at:
