William "Bill" Howard Decker, Jr.
aka "Papaw", age 66, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014. He was born on March 5, 1947 to William H. and Betty M. (Fulton) Decker, Sr. He was a lifetime resident of Indianapolis.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1968-1972 during the Vietnam Era. After his military career he worked for Indiana Bell as a lineman from 1972-1974. He then went on to serve his community as an officer in The Indianapolis Police Department until he retired in 1988. After his retirement he drove a school bus for Lawrence Township for 20 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #86 and a past member of the Confederate Air Force.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Anna R. Decker of Indianapolis; son, William H. Decker III of Indianapolis; step-sons, David W. (Karrie) Hinkle and Brian L. (Wendy) Hinkle both of Indianapolis; step-daughters, Sheila A. Hinkle and Dawn M. (Jeff) Mcquire also of Indianapolis; brother, IMPD Officer Mark L. (Dale) Decker of Indianapolis; best friend, Roger (Alice) Glover of Indianapolis; 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Decker, Sr.
A celebration of life gathering will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. with a remembrance service to take place at 2:30 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police, 1525 Shelby Street, Indianapolis. Memorials in memory of Officer Decker can be made to the FOP Clothe-A-Child fund. Arrangements were entrusted to Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services - Indianapolis .
