Robert Rockwell Carter

Died June 30, 2013 peacefully in his sleep. He was born December 4th, 1929 in Decatur, Illinois to the late Russell and Ruth Carter . Robert is an alumni of Millikin University in Decatur, IL with his Masters Degree in Television from Syracuse University. After several positions in broadcasting, he found his life's work at WTTV Channel 4 in Indianapolis. There, he produced, directed and performed in many capacities including developing the character for Nightmare Theater which has earned him a spot in the Indiana Broadcasters Hall of Fame as well as the title of America's longest running horror movie host, Sammy Terry. Robert also was the owner of the Family Music Center for 25 years, starting many band programs in the Indianapolis parochial schools. Robert was a Mason, a proud Army veteran and an active member and elder at Southport Presbyterian Church.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis; they loved traveling, music and their family. He is survived by his sons, David (Sandy) and Mark; daughters, Katherine (Richard) Lowe and Elizabeth (Brian) Smith; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 5 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center , 7602 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis IN 46227. The general public is welcome .

A funeral service for (family, friends, co-workers, and church family only) will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6 in Southport Presbyterian Church, with private visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the service in the church. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
