I spent 2 years in the FHS band with Darren, as he was 2 classes ahead of me. I knew of him, how could one not, by his talent as a saxophonist. He and I probably never said a single word to each other during those two years, but through the miracle of Facebook, he befriended me a few years ago (I guess he knew who I was too LOL). It kinda surprised me but I accepted the friendship. I'm glad I did. Over the past few years we chatted here and there via posts and messages. When I was posting how I wanted to do a road trip to Wisconsin, he provided tips and offered any help I needed as I drove through his area as I would be making this trip solo. When he told me how he was fighting cancer, I continuously prayed for him. I was devastated to hear of his passing and wished we connected more. I never would have thought a 30 yr old acquaintance would be come a friend but I felt he cared enough to offer any help he could for me in my quest to have an adventure. I knew he was a great guy back in high school and it was 27 years later that I would find out personally. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I will pray for you as you go through this trying time. Rest In Peace Darren. I know you will be remembered by so many people because you touched so many lives one way or another.

My condolences to the Klem family. Darren was one of my closest friends throughout elementary, junior high and high school, and he impacted me greatly. He will be sorely missed, and please know he was loved and appreciated by many, even if we weren't in his day to day life recently... Lolita Jackson, FHS'85
