No doubt, Howard was one of the finest men I ever knew in my 80 years of life. Beyond being the leading broadcast news anchor, in Indiana, he was a "prince of a man'. He was just a fine person. His knowledge and intellect shown forth every minute of his life. He was Real. From 1962 to 1966, I worked with a man I will never forget. Ad Astra, Howard.

As a child, I remember my mother speaking fondly of "going to Howe High School" with Howard Caldwell when he was on television. She is 92 and still remembers him. Sorry to hear of your loss.

Dear Lynn , My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I first met you at ISU with you coming from Garfield and I was coming from Wiley. We were in different sororities, but I always followed you and heard about you from your cousin, Janet, who was my neighbor in T.H. My husband and I always tuned into WTHI to hear your husband newscast. How lucky for us that you moved to Indy in 1959 the same year we moved there. We listened to Howard continually from 1959 until 1964 when we moved to Fort Wayne to live. We really missed Howard's newscast living in Fort Wayne, but I was able to catch it when I visited my daughter in Indianapolis.

A kind, thoughtful, personable and talented man. We were "competitors", but one could never view Howard as anything but a friend. A good soul and a great man.

When I arrived at WRTV in 1978 as Field Anchor ... no one had to tell me about Howard Caldwell. Howard was a giant in the broadcast news business and it showed. We knew it, but he always remained a humble servant to Central Indiana. Howard and Lynn reached out to my wife Susie and me by helping us find a neighboring house that would be our home in Avalon Hills for more than 30-years. He was blessed with a heart for helping people, our viewers, understand the news and how local, national and global events impacted our lives. He could have gone on to achieve national prominence with one of the major networks, but his heart and home were always here in Indianapolis. I liked and respected that about Howard. He never looked at WRTV as a stepping stone to the "majors." He knew that God had given him a calling to help all of us gain a better appreciation and understanding of one another and the world around us. He took pride in being a Hoosier and was loved for simply being a friend. A good friend of mine upon learning of Howard's passing related how his mother would always announce to the family, "Hurry, Howard's about to come on!" Thank you Howard for being a mentor to all of us at WRTV and all of the others in this market who learned what it meant to be a true professional. I can hear the angels in Heaven shouting even now, "Hurry, Howard's about to come on!" You finished well Howard Caldwell. May your family always have fond memories and may they be surrounded by good friends, love, and God's Blessings. Ken & Susie Nelson

Great man, avid storyteller, all around good guy. It was my honor and pleasure to have known him, worked with him, played tennis with him occasionally, and been his friend. Bill Gladish, producer 1983-2003 WRTV

To Lynn and the Caldwells;
I was priviledged to work with Howard many years when early in my broadcast news career at WFBM/WRTV and knew him to be a wonderful man and a true gentleman. Howard was always calm in the melee which surrounded our work and could be counted on for a thoughtful and professional response to a young reporter's question. He was part of one of the country's really fine news organizations and we were all better off for it. Central Indiana has lost a real hero.

Dear Lynn and the entire Caldwell family,
We are so saddened to hear of Howard's passing. The times with Howard and the gang on the court gave Mike tremendous joy. We will forever be touched and remember the many talks they had where Howard shared his love for his family, his friends, life, people and of course, the Butler Bulldogs. His friendship was one of a kind. He was one of a kind. The world was a better place with Howard in it.
May God's perpetual light shine upon him, and may He forever hold Howard in the palm of His Hand. Our love and prayers for your wonderful family.

Dear Lynn and family, I was deeply saddened to hear about Howard's passing. We were on the Cross-country and Track teams at Howe H.S. and he gave his ALL to not let the team down. He was not only a gentle man...he was also a Gentleman.
Lynn, my prayers will be with you and your family and Howard will be missed but not forgotten by his many friends.

Dear Lynn, Tracy, Ginny and Susan, I am so very sorry. I wish Howard had more time with you and his amazing grandchildren. He was the best person...kind, compassionate and generous and had the biggest, most loving of hearts. I, like everyone who he knew, will miss him very, very much.

My Dear Lynn and Family
We have many memories, from the trip up in the mountains at Tucson with Howard in his rain coat to the trips to Madison to see Wisconsin and Indiana play football.Those trips led to "Howie tie my shoe", The large bottle of wine, to his stories of when he stayed at Camp Randall stadium with the Navy during WWII.
We will always have a remembrance of Howard as you gave us the painting by Forsyth.
He was a great man.
