Betty Jane Ball Vickery

94, passed away Monday, June 10, 2013, in Indianapolis, her lifelong home.

Betty was born March 26, 1919, to Frank W. and Jesse Ball, joining her three brothers Frank, John and Allen. She graduated from Shortridge High School and Butler University, where she joined Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She also explored her passion for the arts at the John Herron Art Institute.

Betty was a tireless giver of both her time and resources to the Indianapolis arts, civic and volunteer communities. She served as President of the Indianapolis Propylaeum, Review Club and was twice Regent of the Caroline Scott Harrison chapter of the DAR.

She was an active member of the Decorative Arts Society, Scottish Society, Methodist Hospital Task Core and Meridian Hills Country Club where she organized and hosted her weekly duplicate bridge group, and played in the ladies 9 hole group.

She was fond of traveling and enjoyed a good adventure. She remained active late into life, enjoying snow skiing with her grandchildren at age 70.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband George E. Vickery, Jr. and son, George E. Vickery III. She is survived by her son, Steven Vickery and wife Connie, and grandchildren Charles Ashley and Julia Jackley Vickery.

Betty and George were among the original founding families of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in 1952.

There will be a calling on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Crown Hill Funeral Home , with service and burial Friday at 2 p.m. in the Gothic Chapel in the Crown Hill Cemetery.
