Charles Albert Nunery
On Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the age of 93, Charles Albert (Al) Nunery was called home to be with the Lord. Reverend Nunery graduated from Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary before serving as pastor at multiple congregations in the Kentucky Conference for the United Methodist Church from 1942-1967. He then served as pastor in the Northern Indiana conference for UMC from 1967 until 1983 when he retired as lead pastor to serve as Minister for Visitation and Deaf Ministries at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.
Reverend Nunery was active in the Greater Indianapolis Emmaus Community, serving as Spiritual Director for numerous Emmaus walks.
He traveled extensively around world leading numerous tour groups with his wife of 66 years, Grace Eileen Nunery. He studied to be a concert pianist before answering God's call to the ministry. He was an avid gardener, and a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife Grace Nunery, his brother Arnold Nunery, grandson Brian Joseph Allford, great granddaughter, Aidan Sophia Hunt and granddaughter Ali Nunery. He is succeeded by his four children, Ruth (Mike) Allford, David (Debbie) Nunery, William (Mathieu) Nunery, and Dorothy (Timothy) Juergensen, as well as 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place in Indianapolis on Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 11-2 at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel , 740 E. 86th Street. Funeral services will follow at 4:30 pm at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street. Private burial services will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Crown Hill Cemetery.
