Charles Theodore "Chic" Butz

92, went home to be with the Lord on December 25, 2012. Dad was born on May 5, 1920, in Marion, Indiana, to Ora Ellis Butz and Edith Mary Butz. Chic was married for 70 years to the love of his life, Rebecca Jean Butz, who preceded him in death on July 29, 2012. His brother Tom, his three sisters Dortha, Katherine (Watson), and MaryAnna (Beasley) also preceded him.

Chic was a graduate of Shortridge High School, Butler University, and Indiana Business College. As a proud member of our World War II generation, he served his country in the Navy in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. He married his dear Jean in November, 1942. After the war he completed his CPA exam and worked for several years in accounting. Dad's love of education soon had him teaching at Indiana Business College where he remained for 52 years ending his career as the president of the college.

The couple had three children: Ted Butz (Sally), Ann Dean (Carl), and B Baldwin (Herb). Pawpaw was a huge favorite of his 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He delighted them with his smile, good nature, and many talents. Nobody could whistle like Chic. Riding a bicycle backwards, storytelling, yard work, yoyo tricks, and infamous camping trips were among some of our fondest memories. His fabulous outlook on life was contagious, and he was greatly loved by all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Chic was a longtime member of the Riviera Club and the Allisonville Christian Church. Prior to that, he sang in the choir at Crestview Christian Church. Chic was a longtime member of the Indianapolis Rotary Club and the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. His group of Shortridge friends continues to meet once a month. He enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives at his timeshares in Florida.

We also want to thank our wonderful loving caregivers, Erica Cooper and Jennifer Armstrong.

In lieu of flowers, Dad would like donations made to the Salvation Army and Allisonville Christian Church.

A service will be held Friday, January 4, 2013 at 1 p.m. in Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple , 1305 E. Broad Ripple Ave. Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
