Clarence Bernard "Bernie" Casselman Jr.

Passed away on March 8, 2014. Bernie was born on January 14, 1924 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He went to Shortridge High School, and Central Normal College, where he was the captain of the football, basketball, and baseball teams. After a brief stint in the Army he began a teaching career in several towns of Hendricks County including Liston, Amo and Plainfield, where he was principal and coached several different sports. He ended up his almost 40 year teaching career in the Indianapolis Public School System as a teacher, principal and retiring a teacher, where he was voted teacher of the year in his last year. Bernie loved playing bridge and was a Gold Life Master. He taught, coached, and mentored many young people. He was preceded in death by a spouse, Phyllis Casselman (Traylor) and a son, Donald L. Casselman. Bernie leaves behind his wife, Betty; daughter, Patti Cleary; sons, Bruce and David Casselman; as well as 6 grandchildren and 2 great-granchildren. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 29th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Kingsway Christian Church Chapel, 7981 East County Road 100 North, Avon, Indiana.
