Donna Jean Cothron

84, of Indianapolis, passed away at home surrounded by family, June 6, 2014. Donna was born on March 21,1930 in Indianapolis, IN, the eldest child of the late Levi and Catherine (Zipp) McClain. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and a graduate of St. John's Academy. Donna's greatest loves were her family and faith and enjoyed annual trips to Holiday World and family gatherings. Donna and her late husband, Charlie, owned and operated Cothron Cleaner's which opened the first drive through cleaners in the state. Donna began her second career in 1986, as the adoption clerk for Probate Court in Marion County, as her love for children made her a natural in this career. During her 18 years of service, she pioneered an annual adoption Christmas party for adopted families and their children. Upon retirement in 2004, she was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash for distinguished humanitarian service to the State of Indiana, by Governor Joseph E. Kernan. Donna currently served as president of the board for Harvard Square Co-op. She is survived by her 10 children, Linda Ventura, Doug Cothron, Kathy (Mark) Smith, Chuck Jr.(Marla) Cothron, Mark (Peggy) Cothron, Mary Jo (Spyros) Pappas, Michael (Kim) Cothron, Thomas (Heidi) Cothron, Sharon (Mike) Larsh and Kimberly Cothron; 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and her brother, Thomas (Linda) McClain, along with several nieces and nephews and special friend, Mary Lou Belch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cothron, Sr.; brother, Jack McClain and sisters, Joyce Volpp, Pat Reckley and Mary Catherine Catterson. Visitation will be on Monday, June 9, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home , 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, June 10 at 11:00 a.m. in Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2905 Carson Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46203. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
