Durand Lee Gilbert
41, Indianapolis, passed away on April 15, 2013. Durand was born to Cardie Lee Gilbert and Betty Jean Gilbert in Ft. Worth, Texas. Durand attended Marengo High School in Dixons Mills, Alabama. Durand enlisted in the United States Army in November 1990 and served overseas in Japan, retiring in November 1993. He was an active member of Eastern Star Church.
Durand received his Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a Master of Business Administration Degree in Accounting from Indiana Wesleyan University. He was a member the National Society of Black Engineers. He worked at Raytheon Indianapolis and finally at the Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) and worked there until he was unable to work due to severe ongoing complications with Lupus.
Durand was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Rev. Henry Goines and Beatrice Goines of Dixon Mills, AL. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Melanie Lindsey Gilbert; 6 daughters, Charmaine Ariel, Malika Charnae, Nikita Chonté, Nyla Angelique, Duranda Leigh, and Amariah Chardae; mother, Betty Jean Gilbert, Dixons Mills, AL; brother, Rodney Andre Gilbert, Atlanta, GA; Mother-in-law, Mary Lindsey, Chattanooga, TN; three sisters-in-law, Marlene Jordan, Lorna Lindsey of Chattanooga, TN, Michelle Culp (Tony) Murfreesboro, TN; One brother-in-law, Nathan Lindsey, Orlando, FL.; A devoted Great Aunt Sister Jellean Clifton; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
His visitation will be Sun, Apr. 21, 5pm - 8pm at New Direction Christian Church, 5330 E. 38th St. The Homegoing Celebration is Mon., Apr. 22, 2013, 11am at Eastern Star Church, 5750 E. 30th Street, Indianapolis.
