Gilbert Lewis Myers
97, died peacefully with his family at his side, at his home at American Village on August 5, 2014. He was born in Albany, NY on June 2, 1917, to the late Louis A. and Ada G. Myers, and was raised in Boston, MA.
Gil was a graduate of Mount Hermon School (now Northfield Mount Hermon), Mount Hermon, MA and Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1945. Mr. Myers was married to Frances Holland Myers in 1942 until her death in 1993, and to Ovilla White Myers in 1996 until her death in 2008.
Gil had a long career in sales, and was retired from Curtis Industries. He was a charter member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
Gil was preceded in death by his brother Robert A. Myers. He is survived by his daughters Janice M. (Alan) Wilhere and Constance R. Myers, two grandchildren, Constance W. (Steve) Vinson and Justin D. (Saijaithai) Wilhere, two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Simone Vinson, two stepchildren, Jack E. (Carol) White and Paula Chappell and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at American Village, Washington Manor on E.54th St. for the wonderful and loving care given to Gil during his time there.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014, with calling at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Entombment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery on Allisonville Rd.
Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the
- Greater Indiana Chapter and Catholic Relief Services.
