Herman F. Spacke
88, was born in Indianapolis on April 20, 1924 to Herman F. and Lillian M. Feier Spacke. Growing up on the east side, Herman graduated from the great Arsenal Technical High School. After serving in the Army during WWII, he attended Rose Poly-Technical Institute. Herman spent 32 years of his professional career with Indiana Bell Telephone company from which he retired in 1983 and subsequently joined the Telephone Pioneers of America. Moving to the south side in 1965, Herman and his family were charter members of St. Barnabas Catholic Church where he and his wife were active volunteers for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. His loving marriage to Ethel was in it's 62nd year. Herman is also survived by his children, Sheila Mathes, Jay Spacke (Becky) and Tom Spacke (Terri); 8 grandchildren and, so far, 8 great grandchildren. Herman knew no strangers and on May 10th, he and his wonderful sense of humor went to Heaven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday May 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. in St. Barnabas Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home with additional visitation on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in St. Barnabas Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Barnabas Conference of St. Vincent de Paul Society. Online condolences may be shared with the family at orileyfuneralhome.com
