James Vance Obituary

James F. Vance, Sr. 75, of Spencer, IN, died Friday, April 16, 2004 at his residence. He was born July 1, 1928 in Midland Park, NJ to James F. and Jenny (Amos) Vance. He graduated from Pompton Lakes High School in 1946. He received his BS Degree in mechanical engineering from Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, Rolla, MO, and in 1959 received his MS in mathematical statistics from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. He was also an Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Sally (McCarl) Vance; son James Vance, Jr. and wife Shelley of Spencer; daughters, Sandra Mann of Arizona, Karen Vance of Indianapolis, Susan Downs and husband Allen of Westfield; brother Thomas Vance of Winslow, IN; and sister Eileen Kenny, Hamilton, NJ; and nine grandchildren. Jim was the FounderCEO of Van-Tec, Inc. in Spencer, developing, manufacturing and marketing of specialty medical products. In 1988, he started JFV Assoc., a proprietary business working as an advisor to start up companies. Jim continued to work at this until the time of his death. There will be a Memorial Service at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home, Spencer. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until service time; Rev. William Casady, Rev. Douglas Finney, and George Allison will officiate. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Chambersville Cemetery. The Owen County Community Foundation is accepting donations for the Jim Vance Memorial Fund to benefit the Owen County Family YMCA.
