James H. Taylor, Jr.
91, Indianapolis, passed away on December 29, 2012.
Formerly of Anderson, he was married to Jennie Sumpter Taylor.
A member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, and its Men's Union Bible Class, he was a honorably discharged veteran of the U. S. Army. A well known master barber, he opened his first shop in 1952 and retired in 2004.
An avid golfer, he started the first Junior golf program in Indianapolis and was a founding member of the Scenic View Country Club, a member of the NAACP and in the organized the black barber's union.
On Friday, January 4, there will be visitation from 5-8pm at Stuart Mortuary Chapel. On Saturday, there will be viewing from 10am-12pm at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church and services at 12pm. Interment will be on Monday, January 7 at 12pm at Crown Hill Cemetery.
His survivors include a son, James "JT" Taylor (Evalyn) and daughter, Judith M. "Judy" Williams; grandchildren, Kenneth, Kevin and Kathy Williams, Aaron Taylor and Marsha Greigo, (grandson, Damon Williams preceded him in death in 1988), many great and great, great grand-children and a brother, Charles Taylor.
