James L. "Jimmy" Bennett

83, of Indianapolis, passed away on February 3, 2014 in St. Augustine Home for the Aged. Jim was born on September 26, 1930 in Utica, New York, where he spent his childhood.

At the age of 14 Jim found work as a professional pianist in the Adirondacks. He came to Indianapolis at the age of 18 to attend the Jordan School of Music. He made a living as a pianist playing at many of the most notable clubs in the city, most notably The Chuckwagon, The Country Village and Thomas's.

Jim was a Marine Corps Veteran. During his time in the service he entertained troops by playing piano and even gave lessons to his Colonel's children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Angelina (Orsene) Bennett and his wife, Helen Alice Bennett. Survivors include his children, Joe Bennett, Adam Bennett, Joni Morris, Julie Curry, Angie Novak Vanlandingham; former wife and friend, Shirley Mitchell; sister, Jane Reittinger; brother, Raymond Bennett; 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Jim will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 in St. Augustine Home for the Aged. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Home for the Aged. Online condolences may be offered at:
