James P. Crowe
79, of Avon, departed this life September 25, 2012. He was born February 7, 1933 in French Lick to Fred L. and Ethel (Parks) Crowe who preceded him in death. Jim earned his Bachelor's Degree from General Motors Institute. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Korea. He worked for Allison Gas Turbine for over 40 years, retiring in 1992. Jim was a kind and gentle soul who dedicated his life to community service. He first dedicated himself to Optimist International in 1969. Over the years, he would serve many posts including Optimist International Vice-President, State Governor, Committee Host Chairman of the International Convention and chapter President, and other chairs. Jim was also a 33rd Degree Mason at Speedway Masonic Lodge #729 where he recently received his 50 year pin. He belonged to the Murat Shriners and especially enjoyed belonging to the Corvette Club. In Hendricks County, Jim had served on the Board of Directors of West Central Conservancy District, the Avon Community School Board, the Avon Library Board, the Avon Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning and Appeals. Jim was a member of Avon United Methodist Church where he served on numerous boards. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Gail (Griggs) Crowe; brother, Robert Parks Crowe; sister, Fredina J. Crowe; in-laws, Thad and Louise Griggs, Sue and Tom Greer and Karen Griggs; several nieces and nephews and a host of grateful friends and colleagues. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 1st in Family Funeral Care , 5791 Rockville Rd. A memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2nd in Avon United Methodist Church,6850 US Highway 36, with calling there beginning at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will follow in Westridge Park Cemetery.
