James W. Murphy
79, went home to be with the Lord on January 5, 2013. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on June 16, 1933. He attended Nashville public schools and served in the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army. James was a member of Emerson Avenue Church of Christ and a former member of Kingsley Terrace Church of Christ.
He was employed by General Motors Detroit Diesel Allison in 1965 and retired in 1996 after holding several positions at various plants in the production, assembly and inspection areas. James was an avid golfer, chess player and loved playing the piano.
He was preceded in death by both parents, Matthew and Mary Murphy, along with his brother, Matthew Murphy, Jr. James leaves his children, Sharon (Houston, TX); Robin, and Jayme Murphy; sister, Dolores (Tommie) Tompkins and step-mother, Mattie Bea Frazier to cherish his memory. His loving nieces and nephews include, Matthew (Melissa) Murphy III, Karen Myers, Angela (Derrick) Perkins, David Murphy, Marcus Murphy, Michael Tompkins, Leslie (Terry) Allen and cousins, Bill Bryant and Geraldine McGowan.
Visitation will take place at Crown Hill Memorial Chapel located at 700 West 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208 from 10 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, January 12, 2013. The funeral service will commence at Noon and will be officiated by Pastor Ron Daly. Interment will immediately follow.
