Jane Madden Lathrop

Indianapolis, passed peacefully into the Lord's arms on January 3, 2014. Jane was born in Indianapolis on June 4, 1924, to the late Marie and John J. Madden. She graduated from St. Joan of Arc Catholic School and Ladywood School. After high school, she attended Butler University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

Jane's family knew the family of her future husband, John S. Lathrop. John and Jane were married on July 12, 1947. John preceded her in death on July 9, 2007, just 3 days before their 60th wedding anniversary. Jane's three sisters also preceded her in death.

Jane was a homemaker and loving and patient mother and teacher to her 5 children: Susan (Tom) Boor, John (Connie) Lathrop, Nancy (Zane) Brown, Homer (Jane) Lathrop, and Bob (Faith) Lathrop.

John and Jane loved to play golf, and Jane had practiced as a child at her grandmother Madden's summer cottage, Sunblest, which became River Glen Country Club in Fishers, IN. The Lathrops were charter members of Crooked Stick Golf Club where Jane was the Ladies 18-hole Champion. In 1977, the Lathrops retired to Palm Harbor, FL, at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club, where they enjoyed golf, tennis, cards, and good friends.

Jane was also an artist and gardener and loved all God's creatures great and small. Her famous homemade chocolate chip cookies were enjoyed by her family, her physicians, her neighbors, her lawn care workers, and just about anyone who came around to "fix it".

Mom will be remembered for her strong faith, her deep love, and her deeply loved family: 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
