Joseph M. Huffman

92, Logansport, IN 46947, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 @ 11:37 AM at Memorial Hospital Logansport, IN. He was born on August 10, 1920 in Elkhart, IN to Orval M. "Red" Huffman and L. Blanche Groves. He was married on January 3, 1945 in Draper, North Carolina to Mary "Virginia" Giles Huffman who preceded in death in 2002. He retired in 1982 as the supervisor of music for the Logansport Community School Corporation after 36 years in the corporation.

He was a 1938 graduate of Logansport High School where he took 1st place in the State Cello Competition. He then attended Capital University in Columbus, OH and then obtained his Masters Degree from Butler University. Mr. Huffman was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II. Joseph was the former president of the Logansport Little League and the Area Director of North West Indiana for 10 years. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Phi Beta Mu where he served as president and later inducted into the Indiana Music Educators Hall of Fame in 2007. Mr. Huffman was a Legislative Representative for retired teachers for 12 years. He was also a licensed commercial pilot flying for the Logan Flying Service for 22 years. In his later years he enjoyed being a Music Contest Judge at the State and Regional levels.

Survivors include: Son, Dan Huffman & Wife Lori, Chardon, OH; Daughter, Marsha Beachler & Husband Steve, Phoenix, AZ; Grandchildren, Jenny Beachler, Tice Huffman, Michael Huffman, Susie Benz, Brent Huffman, Andrew Huffman, Benjamin Huffman, Robert Huffman, Timothy Huffman; and Great Granddaughter, Bethanie Huffman.

The services are at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 29, 2012 @ First United Methodist Church in Logansport. The place of burial is Ever-Rest Memorial Park Logansport, IN. The visitation is from 3:00 -7:00 PM, Friday, December 28. 2012 @ Gundrum Funeral Home, and from 10:00 - 11:00 AM Saturday, December 29, 2012 @ First United Methodist Church.Memorials may be made to the Logansport Music Boosters.
