Louise Logan Hartley
Louise was born July 1, 1931 in Portland, Indiana to the late Mardy L. Logan and Florence (Green) Logan. She passed away October 17, 2013.
She was married to Joseph "Joe" Hartley (deceased) for 60 years. Louise and Joe raised three children: Karen Cotner (Stephen) of Vincennes, Gregory Hartley of West Chester, PA and Lynn (Hartley) Goodman (deceased). Grandchildren: Jennifer (Ellis) Owens and Matthew Cotner of Fishers, IN; Michael Goodman of Panama City Beach, FL; and Jonathan, Carolyn and Ryan Hartley of West Chester, PA.
Louise graduated from Portland High School in 1949, earned a Bachelor of Science in Education (Indiana University, 1953) and a Masters of Science in Elementary Education (Ball State University, 1978). She taught elementary school in various towns: Martinsville, Portland, Bloomington and Indianapolis (Sycamore School for the Gifted and Talented) for eighteen years. She loved teaching (especially Indiana history), mentoring and challenging the young minds of her students.
Louise believed that volunteering for community organizations was another way to touch lives, share her passion for teaching history and love of books. She held the office of President, Alpha Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa, member of Monroe County Library Board and docent for Indiana State Museum and Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
A celebration of her life will be held, Saturday, November 2, from 1 until 3 p.m. in Leppert Mortuary - Carmel , 900 N. Rangeline Road.
