Mary Bessie Gray

Of Noblesville died January 22, 2013. She was born on October 14, 1922 to the late Lucas and Crisoula (Nicholas) Theoharis in Greenwich Village, New York. Mary was a graduate of Washington Irving High School in New York City. She won numerous awards for her skills as a seamstress, and won an award for her penmanship at the 1939 World's Fair. On May 31, 1952, Mary married Roger Scott Gray.

Mary was a Merchandise Buyer at Macy's Department Store in New York City, and had a bit part in the movie "Miracle on 42nd Street", where she could be seen at Macy's glove counter . She also worked in merchandising at Reed's Department store in Bridgeport, CT and worked in Bookstore Operations at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. In 1987, Mary retired as merchandiser at the Hallmark Store at the corner of Capitol and Market Streets in Indianapolis.

Mary was a devoted wife and mother, supportive of her husband as he served as Dean of Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis. She liked to be involved in the activities of her children, Laura and Scott, and in later years was able to enjoy time with her grandchildren, Ian and Dana.

Mary was a Diocesan Liaison for the Episcopal Deans' Wives of North America and a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Noblesville and Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis.

Mary is survived by her husband, Roger; daughter Laura Ann Gray Shultz (Jeffery) of Plymouth, MA; son Scott Winfield Gray (Lee Ann) of Noblesville, IN; grandson Ian Gray Shultz (Yulia) of Somerville, MA, and granddaughter Dana Shepard Shultz of Port Charlotte, FL.; nieces Marilyn Van Horn, Martha Cusano, Deborah Hyland; and nephew Kenneth E. Fosdick. Her sister Olga Hart (Donald) of Rancho Mirage, CA also survives. Mary was preceded in death by her sister Anne Ingerson and her brother Augustus Theoharis.

A memorial service celebrating Mary's life and faith will be held Monday, January 28, 2013 at 1 p.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 444 S. Harbour Drive, Noblesville, IN 46060.
