64, Avon, was called home March 4, 2013. Nancy was born on November 12, 1948, to Hobart E. and Mattie E. (Allbritten) Ashby. She was the youngest of three girls.
Nancy graduated from Garden City West High School in 1966, Michigan Christian College (Rochester College) in 1968, and Eastern Michigan University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She worked for MSD Wayne Township where she proudly and positively influenced the lives of hundrends of students until her retirement in 2010.
A member of churches of Christ throughout her life, she claimed the Westlake congregation in Indianapolis as her family since 1989. She also was a member of the Wayne Township Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society and Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Hobart and Mattie, and her nephew, Jeff Bohler. She is survived by her loving children, Ronald D. (Megan) Dawson and Tiffany (Doug) Etter; her sisters, Sherry "Cookie" Bohler and Clarice (John) Sparkman; her grandchildren, Samantha, Wade, Bella, Andrew and Marissa; and nine nieces and nephews.
Known for her sweet spirit, sense of humor and storytelling skills, Nancy's presence will be dearly missed by family and friends all over the world. A celebration of her life will begin with visitation Friday, March 8, 4 to 8 p.m., at Conkle Funeral Home Avon Chapel, 76 N. SR 267, Avon, followed by a memorial service Saturday, March 9, 10 a.m., at Westlake Church, 612 N. High School Rd., Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rochester College and the Make-A-Wish Foundation Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana Chapter.
