Richard "Dick" Proffitt
72, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014. He was born on April 6, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Henry M. and Anna J. Hasch Proffitt.
Dick proudly served his country in the Army. He also protected and served the people of our city by serving as a Police Officer for the Indianapolis Police Department. He was a Lieutenant, and retired in 2005 after 36 years of faithful service. He was a man of many interests, some of which included piloting planes, motorcycling, racing, bicycling, and traveling. He is dearly loved and will be missed.
Surviving is his wife of nearly 40 years, Teresa D. Sheehan Proffitt; children, Greg Proffitt, Kristin (Greg) Woodruff, Shannon Proffitt, Kristina Miller, and Michael Miller; sisters Joyce Reiners and Shirley Landwerlin; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brothers William, Charles, and Glenn "Ray" Proffitt.
The family is being served by Flanner and Buchanan - Washington Park East , 10722 E. Washington Street, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ Catholic Church, 7225 Southeastern Avenue, with one hour of visitation prior to the Mass. Cremation will follow with a private inurnment in Washington Park East Cemetery.
