Thelma Louise Lowery Snow Johnson
82 of Indianapolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday March 8, 2013. She was born in Gasper, KY on March 16, 1930 to a farmer, Sam Lowery and housewife, Lina Hamilton. At 14 years of age she left home on a train and came to Indianapolis. Thelma would marry Delzo Snow and they were married for 15 years. She would later marry Melvin Johnson and they were married for 25 years.
Thelma was well known in the Haughville and Rainbow Ridge neighborhoods. She worked at Roslyn Bakery, Diamond Chain and BHT. She enjoyed cooking, yard work and gardening. She was a long time member of Speedway General Baptist Church. She was an active volunteer there and was known for delivering meals, working fish fries, and volunteering her time whenever anyone needed a hand. She loved animals and gave to many charities. Thelma was a jack of all trades. She was a carpenter, electrician, painter, gardener and all around "Mrs. Fixit". She never met a stranger and was known for taking in strays, both people and animals. If you ever had a problem to solve, she was the detective you wanted in your corner.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Johnson; son, Thomas Virgil Snow and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Art Snow Sr. (Carol), Jimmie "Russ" Snow, Sr. (Deborah), Melvin Johnson, Robert (Dana) Johnson; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild along with her best friend and extended family Loretta Wheeldon and Cheryl Snow.
Services for Thelma are 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Speedway General Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Floral Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday at the church.
