Warren Eugene "Gene" Brown
91, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin.
He was born on September 17, 1920, in Mooresville, Indiana, the son of Delbert Brown and Gertrude Dolan. Gertrude married Lt. Col. Roy Slough, and together they raised Warren. He married Gladys Gertrude (Bailey) Brown on August 14, 1945 on V-J Day in Dayton, Ohio. She lovingly survives in Franklin. Other survivors include daughter, Marcia James (Bob) of Franklin and son, David E. Brown (Laura Briggs) of Camby; one granddaughter, Jennifer Browne and one great-grandson, Carter Browne of Fort Mill, South Carolina. He was preceded in passing by his brother, Charles Brown and half-brother, John Slough.
He was a 1938 graduate of Mooresville High School.
Gene owned and operated Waverly Garage in the 50's, racing several midget race cars and established Brown's Well Drilling which he owned for several years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of St. George Lutheran Church in Edinburgh; the Waverly Masonic Lodge No. 615, F & A M, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1818.
Pastor Jerry Curry will conduct a service on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Lutheran Church, 10931 South 600 West, Edinburgh, Indiana 46124. Friends may call on Sunday, April 1, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home , 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. A Masonic service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1st by the Waverly Masonic Lodge No. 107, F & A M.
