Robert Kwoh-Tao Woo

89, of Indianapolis, passed into eternal life surrounded by his loving family on October 17, 2013. Bob, as he was known, was born in Beijing, China on August 14, 1924, the son of Dr. Shu-Tai and Rose Yip Woo. He grew up in Shanghai, completing two years at Ta Tung University during World War II. During 1946-1947, he participated in the UN Relief and Rehabilitation Administration effort in China, supervising the unloading and warehousing of heavy industrial equipment at the Shanghai docks. He immigrated to the US in 1947, graduated Summa Cum Laude at Wooster Junior College (MA), and then completed both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (MI). Bob met and married Sophie Lee in Ann Arbor, where they raised two children. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 36 years, primarily in various engineering roles in the Glass Division, including Manager of Manufacturing Engineering for the Nashville Glass Plant (TN), and then Manager of Glass Engineering and Development, and later Quality Control Manager, for the division in Dearborn (MI). In addition to being a family man, Bob enjoyed his dear friends, as well as cheering on the University of Michigan football and basketball teams. He was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed music and good food. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth Li. He is survived by his wife, Sophie L. Woo, his daughter, Janice S. Woo (NY) and his son, Dr. Thomas S. Woo (IN). He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Tan (FL) and Jeannette Chao (NJ), as well as five nephews, four nieces, and their respective children.

Services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at North United Methodist Church, 3808 Meridian St., Indianapolis, with visitation at the church from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the , http://www.alz.org.
