Donald M. Higgins Obituary

Donald Mark Higgins

92, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 10, 2013 in Fishers, Indiana. Beloved husband of the late Betty (McVay) for 67 cherished years, loving father of Mary Ruth (Scott) Neal of Brighton, MI and James Mark (Nancy) Higgins of Fishers, IN and proud grandfather of Emilie and Kirk Higgins, Ryan Turmell and Scott, Dave and Tom Neal. Don was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and two grandchildren. He graduated from the General Motors Institute in Flint, MI during which time he served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force as a glider pilot at Lubbock, TX. Don was also involved with building armored tanks in Detroit, MI. After the war, Don became an Electrical Underbody Engineer at the General Motors Tech Center in Warren, MI for 40 years. Upon his retirement, Don and Betty moved to Florida, where he pursued his hobbies of painting many beautiful pictures for family and friends. He also created whimsical wood carvings, volunteered weekly at Blake Hospital, enjoyed gardening and beachcombing. He will be fondly remembered for his desire for chocolate malteds, pecan pancakes and caramel corn. He was very kind, dearly loved and will be deeply missed. His family wishes to thank People First Hospice and Hamilton Trace for their patience and loving care.
