Maureen Gardner

65 of Carmel, passed away on January 20, 2014. She was born June 26, 1948 in Kokomo, IN to Patrick and Ruth Carey.

From the start, she had so much to say. Just ask any one of her five beloved siblings: Cathleen, Patricia, Kevin, Timothy, and Kelly.

While attending Indiana University, Maureen, or "Mo" as she was known to her many close friends, met the love of her life—her husband of 43 years, Gary.

Maureen taught school for a few years before leaving to do what she always considered the best job of her life, raising her three children: Abigail (Abby), Amanda, and Nicholas (Nick). There was nothing she loved more in the world than being their mom. That is, until she became a grandmother to Amanda's son Chaplin in 2012. "Grammo" loved that job, too.

Once they were grown, Maureen returned to the teaching world at Eastwood Middle School imparting her vast knowledge of reading and writing to many lucky middle schoolers before retiring last year.

Maureen was also known for being a tremendous friend. She was always the one you wanted on your side.

Maureen is survived by husband, Gary Gardner; daughters, Abigail and Amanda (Kolby Rucker) Gardner; son, Nick (Terren) Gardner; grandson Chaplin Rucker; sisters Cathleen (Mark) Hilton, Patricia (Doug) Little, Kelly (Kevin) Humphrey; and brothers Kevin (Patty) and Timothy Carey.

Friends and family will gather on Friday, January 24th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a memorial service to immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel .

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to Riley Children's Hospital, a place Maureen held very dear to her heart.

You are invited to send a condolence to the family at http://www.leppertmortuary.com.
