Wayland Lance Archer
84 of Carmel, passed peacefully from this life on Feb 8, 2014. He was born in Clinton, IN to the late Dr. Odell and Mary Archer. He attended Clinton High School and graduated from Purdue in 1952. He served as a US Marine Corps officer during the Korean War and afterward began a career he loved with the FBI. He served 25 years as a Special Agent in Richmond, VA, Detroit, and Indianapolis. During that time he was a Police School Instructor in Michigan and Indiana and also taught firearms and defensive tactics at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. In 1970 he was appointed Special Agent Counselor for the 85th Session of the FBI National Academy. He retired from the FBI in 1980 and co-founded AMI Associates, a security consulting firm. He then became Associate Security Representative for the NFL when the Colts moved to Indianapolis and served in that capacity for 20 years. He was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, the FBI National Academy Associates, John Purdue Club and Jerusalem Masonic Lodge 99.
Wayland was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen and his twin brother Waite Archer. He is survived by his sons, Lance (Dawn) Archer and Brad Archer; granddaughters, Julia and Jessica; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, Feb 15 at the Mansion at Oak Hill. Friends and family are invited to gather from 3:00 pm, with a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
