August M. King

89, of Indianapolis, passed away March 29, 2014. He was born August 14, 1924 in Indianapolis to the late Walter L. and Lillian B. (Winkler) King. August graduated from Shortridge High School, class of 1942 and Purdue University with a degree in Engineering, class of 1949. He was an electrical engineer with the Bell Systems and Western Electric from 1950 until retiring in 1985. He served with the 442nd Airborne, Troop Carrier Squadron in the European Theatre from 1943 to 1945. He was actively involved in the Billy Graham Crusade Ministry, as well as several other prison ministry and outreach programs.

August is survived by his wife, Susan, whom he married in July 1949; sons, Mark King and Stephen King (Tonalee); grandchildren, Sloane King-Owen (Alphonso) and Sagan King; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by three brothers, James Lee King, John William King and Robert Walter King; and two sisters, Jennie Lee Lower and Leona Margaret Johnson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wheeler Mission in Indianapolis and/or the Billy Graham Crusades.
