Betty J. Mitchell

87, of Indianapolis, passed away April 10, 2014. She was born November 4, 1926 in St. Louis, MO, to the late John and Estelle Herd. Betty married Donald J. Mitchell January 10, 1948, and he preceded her in death after 40 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Betty was a member of Irvington United Methodist Church where she was active in the FA-HO-LO Sunday School class, Anna Circle and the Turnover Shop. Betty was an avid dog lover, who also loved nature and traveling. She was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan, and enjoyed Indy Car Racing, NASCAR, NCAA basketball and the Indianapolis Colts.

Visitation will be Monday, April 14, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel , 5377 E. Washington St. with funeral services Tuesday at 12 noon.

Betty is survived by her loving sons, Donald (Mena), Steven, Kevin (Rita) and Craig (Jenny) Mitchell; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, "Happy". A son, Roger Mitchell; and three dogs, "Pepper", "Valentine" and "Grandpa Curly", preceded her in death.
