Lanny L. Wilhelm Obituary

Lanny L. Wilhelm

69, of Bargersville, passed away on April 14, 2014. A successful entrepreneur, advocate for those in need, and loving father and grandfather, Lanny will be greatly missed by many family members, friends and business acquaintances.

He was born on March 17, 1945 in Liberty, KY to the late Clarence & Arella Hatfield Wilhelm. He is survived by four children, Trisha (John) Maled, Jason Wilhelm, Stefanie (Dave) Benson and Danny (Karlene) Wilhelm; seven grandchildren; sister, Mary Lee Malherwein; and brothers, Dan Wilhelm and Bob Thomas. He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma McTarnsey.

Lanny served the tank truck industry for over forty years, beginning while studying at the University of Cincinnati. He joined Liquid Transport Corp in 1982 as general manager and became its president and part owner in 1990. Lanny joined the National Tank Truck Carriers board of directors in 1992 and served as Chairman in 2007. Lanny also served as Chairman of the Indiana Motor Truck Association in 1993 and was recognized as Ernst & Young's "Entrepreneur of the Year" in 2000. A true enterpriser, Lanny found success in a variety of business interests beyond trucking, including Prime 47 restaurants, real estate and classic automobiles, to name a few. Lanny's love of classic automobiles drove him to open Masterpiece Classic Cars in Whiteland in 2010.

His always-generous spirit inspired him to become involved in One Body Ministries several years ago, allowing him to serve the needs of homeless men and women in our Indianapolis community. He served as a board member of One Body Ministries and was passionate about helping others. Lanny had many successes in the trucking industry and business ventures, but his true legacy is found in his love for his family and friends.
