Wanda Wheeler

Passed away May 22, 2014, at American Village in Indianapolis. She was born in South Bend, IN, May 31, 1921, the daughter of Myrl and Lavada Stewart and the older sister of Marjorie Stewart Goodridge, PH.D. She graduated from New Castle High School, attended Earlham College, and graduated from DePauw University and Columbia University, with degrees in music education. She was teaching music in Greencastle when she met and married Lt. Col. James R. Wheeler in 1949. They were married for 58 years and had three children, Kent Stewart Wheeler, Marsha Ann Wheeler, and Timothy James Wheeler. Wanda taught piano at home and music at School 11 in Indianapolis, and was children, youth, and bell choir director at Northminster Presbyterian Church for many years, where she served as a Church Deacon and as Moderator of the Northminster Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Noblesville Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Indianapolis alumni chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon. She is survived by her son, Kent S. Wheeler. Services will be held at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1660 Kessler Blvd. East Drive on Thursday, May 29th, at 2 p.m. with calling thereafter. Memorial contributions may be made to the .
