Joseph L. Cosby Jr.
85, of Aurora, IL, passed away May 31, 2014. He was born February 5, 1929 in Washington, Daviess Co., IN, to Joseph Lucien, Sr. and Beatrice Evelyn Perkins Cosby. Joe attended Washington High School and was proud to call himself a "Hatchet". He served in the military from 1947-1950 as a sergeant in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, AK. He married Mary Alice Gray on September 17, 1950; they spent most of their adult years in Indianapolis, IN and were loyal members of Englewood Christian Church where he was deacon for many years. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1991. Mr. Cosby is remembered by his family as a loving husband and devoted father, and as a man of strong convictions filled with kindness, generosity, goodwill, and humor.
Mr. Cosby is survived by three children, Philip Cosby and his wife Saundra, Mark Cosby and his wife Patricia, and Karen Cosby and her husband Donald Bockenfeld; as well as his sister, Marilyn Jane Cosby Tafflinger; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years; his parents; and his brother, John Lee Cosby.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel , 5377 E. Washington St. with funeral services Monday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
