Yelba M. Hayes

88, of Indianapolis, passed away June 3, 2014. She was born February 21, 1926 in Managua, Nicaragua to the late Pablo and Maria Avelares Morales. Yelba married James Hayes, Sr., and he preceded her in death June 3, 2012. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a longtime member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.

Visitation will be Monday, June 9, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel , 5377 E. Washington St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 317 N. New Jersey St.

Yelba is survived by her children, Martha E. O'Connor (Greg Henneke), James F. Hayes, Jr., Jacqueline Ann Backus (Dwayne), Sarah Marie Stevenson (James); sisters, Denia Zuniga and Nora Noguera; grandchildren, Sean O'Connor, Heather and Alyssa Hayes, Elena Backus-Reed (Chris), Emily Backus-Brashers (John Paul), Daniel Backus, Lauren, James, Connor and Cole Stevenson; and great-grandchildren, Alivia and Amelia Reed, and Emma Brashers. A brother, William Morales, preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
