Nikolas Forbes Hansen, M.D.

81, Indianapolis, passed away June 15, 2014. He was born October 22, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Robert Hansen, past owner of Hansen Lumber Yard, part owner of the WKMH radio station, and part owner of the Detroit Tigers. They are deceased, but his older brother, Robert Harvey Hansen lives in Florida and the middle brother, James (Gracie) MacDonald Hansen, lives in Washington State.

Nikolas started college at U of M in Ann Arbor, where he met his wife Jean Gunderson. He joined the Navy, became a Photographer's Mate and was Honorably Discharged in June of 1960 when he graduated with a BA degree from Wayne State University. Next he worked as a Paint Salesman with E.I. Dupont in Massachusetts. Soon it was back to Wayne State University Medical School where he graduated in 1968. He practiced medicine in Valparaiso, IN. While still practicing, he drove to Chicago, IL to obtain his Internal Medicine Degree in 1983 and also his Pulmonary Fellowship in 1984.

When he developed Parkinson's Disease, he retired in 1988. He was a member of the Scientech Club. He volunteered at Day Spring, The Children's Museum, and The Museum of Art. His hobbies were photography and Scuba diving, which he also combined. He researched his mother and father's families as well as those of his wife's. He bound the books himself, which included photographs, for his five children and various relatives.

He is survived by his wife Jean G. Hansen. His surviving children are Catherine Elizabeth Hansen, PhD., in LA, Kendall (Anastasia) Elliot Hansen, M.D. in KY, Cynthia (D. Allen Bills) Elaine Hansen, D.D.S., in NC, Susan Clarissa Bevans, MT(ASCP) in IN, and Christopher (Vivienne) Melbourne Hansen in VA. His son, Keith MacDonald Hansen was stillborn. The surviving grandchildren are Chad Nathaniel Hansen, Brandon Andrew Bevans, Nicolette Paige Hansen, Jeremy Michael Bevans, Heather Nicole Bevans, Isabelle Monique Hansen, and Austin David Moorefield.

The family would like to thank St. Vincent Hospice and Senior Home Companion for their gentle care of Nik.
