Nelda M. Nelson
95, of Carmel, died June 29, 2014 at IU North Hospital after a short illness. She was born May 1, 1919 in Jasonville, IN to Vaughn Daugherty and Pearl Bennett Daugherty, and was a resident of Anderson, IN for many years before moving to Carmel. She was formerly employed by Ellis Trucking Co. and Anderson Ornamental Ironworks as a bookkeeper and Ball State University as a secretary.
She was a lifetime member of Jerusalem Chapter No. 254 of Order of Eastern Star, a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority of Anderson and Indianapolis, and was an active member of First Baptist Church of both Anderson and Indianapolis.
Survivors include her children, Carole (husband William) Ingle, of Bedford, John (wife Robin) Nelson, of Carmel, Robert (wife Melissa) Nelson, of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren, Cathleen Weber, Andrew Ingle, Brandon Nelson, Kayla Nelson, Hannah Nelson and Sarah Nelson; great grandson, Landon Nelson; sisters, Lucille Turner, of Terre Haute and Dorothy Lovell, of Ormond Beach, FL; brothers, William H. Daugherty, of Anderson and Forest Daugherty, of Columbus, IN. Nelda was preceded in death by Woodrow P. Nelson, her loving husband of 60 years, and brothers, James and Vaughn Daugherty.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, Saturday morning, July 5th at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel with the funeral service to follow at Noon. A short graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
