Janet Ruth Davis Gascko passed away peacefully the evening of Sunday, July 6 after a valiant fight with cancer. She was born in Terre Haute, Ind. to Robert and Betty Davis and attended the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, where she would later work as an elementary teacher. She was a graduate of Indiana State University and Peabody University in Nashville, Tenn., and held a Masters Degree from Butler University. In 2000, the Council of Schools for the Blind named Janet the Outstanding Teacher of Students Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired. Janet enjoyed running, traveling, sailing and going to the movies.
Janet is survived by her brother, Robert Davis (Heather) of Corydon; step-daughters Mandy (Richard) Sellers of Oakham, England and Julie Gacsko of Edinburgh, Ind.; granddaughters Isabel and Chloe Sellers; nieces, nephews and friends. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ronald Gacsko.
Visitation will be Friday, July 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel in Indianapolis with funeral services at 1 p.m. Saturday. Following cremation, internment will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery Mausoleum.
