Stanley T. Brookie

Died on July 18, 2014. He was born on November 30, 1929 to Robert and Pauline Brookie in Nora, Indiana and was married to Barbara Ann (Meyer) Brookie, who survives him. He graduated from Carmel High School in 1947 and enrolled at Purdue University. After serving in the Army as an anti-aircraft artillery officer during the Korean War, he graduated from Purdue in 1954 with a degree in civil engineering. He was employed at Eli Lilly and Company for 35 years and retired as manager of pharmaceutical planning.

He belonged to Carmel Lodge #421 F.&A.M., American Legion Post #374, and the DAV. He was also a life member of the Purdue Alumni Association, the President's Council, and the Engineering Council at Purdue. He was very active in public library affairs in the 1970's and 80's, serving on the Carmel - Clay Library Board of Trustees for 16 years, and was Past President of the Indiana Library Trustees Association. He was a long-time member of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, deacon and trustee throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Pauline; his sister, Dora Marie Brookie Humke, and his grandson, Tom Brookie. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Brookie and three sons, Robert and his wife, Jackie, Carmel, Terrence and his wife, Mimi, Carmel and Timothy and his wife, Marti, Cary, NC. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Kate Brookie Moffett (Eli), Karen, Susan, Scott (Qing), Jessica, Beth, Anna, Amanda and Monica Brookie and by three great-granddaughters, Darcy and Lorelai Moffett and Natalie McMahel. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Barbara Brookie White (Alan), Crawfordsville, IN; daughter-in-law, Anne Brookie, Carmel and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janet and Dick Meyer, Bloomington, MN.

He enjoyed fishing with friends and playing golf with the "Super Seniors" at Fox Prairie and the Wednesday "Lung Card" group.

He was very proud of his sons for what they have accomplished in life, for their support and love for their families, for their support of their churches and communities, and their hard work and successes in their careers. He had a special love for his daughters-in-law. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow and build their lives.

Memorial contributions may be made to Orchard Park Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 in Flanner and Buchanan - Carmel . Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014 in Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 1605 E. 106th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46280.
