Nancy Chapman Benton
passed away in Laguna Vista, Texas on July 23, 2014. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 17, 1948, to parents Henry and Lucille Chapman. While she was still in nursing school, Nancy married Edward Benton on August 23, 1969, who would be her husband for the next 44 years of her life. She graduated from the Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing in 1970 and became a Registered Nurse. Nancy later attended the University of Maryland, obtaining a B.S. in Nursing, and a few years later, she earned a second degree, this time a B.S. in Psychology, at the University of Baltimore.
Nancy worked as nursing supervisor in Baltimore for 17 years until she and her husband relocated to Indiana, where she would work as a nurse at Riverview Hospital for 22 years until her retirement in 2010. She will be remembered for her inexhaustible energy and passion, which earned her numerous accolades as a nurse and assured that she was always the favorite caregiver to her patients. Those who loved her will also not forget her interesting tastes in leisure activities, which included visiting the state of Ohio, a love of covered bridges, shopping at Cracker Barrel and a passion for plants and flowers.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Edward Benton; and her two sons, Jeff Benton and his wife Brittany, of Dallas, TX, and Michael Benton and his wife Andrea, of Brownsville, TX. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother, Michael Chapman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the
