Harry L. Bolton
70, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014 following a lengthy illness.
He was a resident of Westfield and formerly of Indianapolis.
Harry was born August 26, 1943 in St. Louis, MO, the only son of Harry H. and Addie (McBee) Bolton.
At age 8, he moved to Indianapolis with his family and lived on the Northside, attending John Strange, Fall Creek and Eastwood schools. He graduated from North Central High School in 1961.
Harry attended Indiana University where he was a member of Delta Chi social fraternity. A lifelong member of Delta Chi, he served five years as a board trustee for the IU Delta Chi chapter. He received his B.S. degree in Business from Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI.
His military service included six years in the Indiana National Guard, Sgt. E5 artillery section chief with the Noblesville unit and two years as intelligence analyst at the 38th Infantry Division headquarters.
He was employed five years in traffic management at UniRoyal Tire Company and employed 33 years at Allison Transmission in sales and service. He retired from Allison in 2006.
Harry relocated to Westfield in 2008. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Chapman Bolton, whom he married June 29, 1968. Their two daughters are Leanne Bolton of Indianapolis and Rebecca Bolton of Noblesville.
Harry is also survived by numerous cousins throughout the South. He and Carol enjoyed traveling to family reunions, celebrations, and gatherings to spend time with loved ones as well as traveling throughout the U.S. and occasionally overseas.
An enthusiastic outdoorsman, Harry loved camping, fishing and trapshooting at Sweetwater Lake and backpacking in the Rocky Mountain wilderness of Montana and Wyoming. He enjoyed reading biographies and military history.
Outgoing and friendly, Harry was a former member of the Speedway Optimist Club. He was an active member in several area churches including Northminster Presbyterian, Tabernacle Presbyterian (served as deacon), and East 91st Street Christian Church. In recent years, he belonged to Radiant Christian Life in Westfield where he participated in numerous Bible studies, served as trustee for three years, and volunteered in Cityview ministry to the homeless.
A service will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, August 7 at Radiant Christian Life Church in Westfield with Pastor Steve Richards officiating. Calling will begin at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial with military rites will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. A luncheon will follow at the church.
